II Timothy 2:2 "And the things which thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also."

INTRODUCTION:
We believe that the local church is God’s appointed institution for the making of disciples and the training of ministers. It offers the intangible of being able to balance theological training with practical experience; in the setting where the individual will be ministering. While many churches acknowledge this principle and recognize this as a weakness of seminary training; there is often little academic and theological training offered by the local church. This institute is an attempt to bridge that gap by providing in-depth and quality instruction for those committed to serving Christ in the local church.

Two other benefits to local church training are: a comparatively low cost and the ability for married men and families to not have to uproot during this transition period of their life. The cost of a seminary education has grown to a level where it is a severe obstacle to the average individual. In addition, those who graduate will likely begin ministering to small congregations unable to provide a salary large enough to pay for student loans. Also, the ability to keep the family in a stable environment; around the support of family, friends, and a local church is a great advantage to producing a home that is strong in ministry.

We are making all of the materials for the institute available on our church’s website www.libertymedford.com. The lessons and notes will be available to listen to directly from the site or to burn to a CD. If your church would prefer to have the material mailed we will also accommodate such requests. We pray these materials will be a blessing to assist you to fulfill the Great Commission committed to His churches by the Lord Jesus Christ.

PURPOSE STATEMENT: To provide discipleship and direction for faithful leaders committed to serving the Lord Jesus Christ through the local church.

MISSION STATEMENT: "Preparing servants who are solid in Bible, sound in doctrine, and strong in ministry."

PROGRAM OVERVIEW:
The structure of this program is designed to enhance the preparation for ministry by emphasizing the proper subject matter at the appropriate time in the learning process. There are three major subject areas that are necessary for adequate preparation for the gospel ministry: Exegetical theology (bible knowledge), Systematic theology (doctrine), and Practical theology (practical ministry). I Timothy 4:13 “Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.” Instead of just teaching classes from each of these areas, an attempt has been made to order the classes in such a way as to maximize the capacity of the student to digest the material.

Year One - Bible Knowledge In this program the first year will be completely devoted to Bible knowledge as it is the obvious foundation for all ministry. Teddy Roosevelt once said, "a thorough knowledge of the Bible is worth more than a college education". The emphasis in the first year will be to develop a working knowledge of the entire Bible from Genesis to Revelation. Obviously, everything cannot be learned in one year, so the emphasis will be upon the synthetic method of Bible study - studying the Bible from the whole to its parts. Once this has been accomplished the student will have the building blocks necessary to begin developing their system of doctrinal beliefs.

Year Two - Systematic Theology In the second year of study the emphasis will be upon all of the doctrines of the Bible. Once an individual possesses a working knowledge of the Bible, the next step is to derive what the Bible teaches on the primary subjects of Christianity. Establishing a foundation in Bible knowledge before studying the doctrines of the Bible is essential to help students balance doctrinal truths in proportion to their emphasis and importance in the big picture of God’s ultimate purpose. This will allow the student to better comprehend the deeper things of God and to be able to digest the meat of the Word. Once an understanding of "the faith once for all delivered to the saints" is developed, the student is prepared to learn the practical aspects of ministering to God's flock.

Year Three - Practical Ministry The first two years of classes will be identical for all students. However, in the third year, the program will be tailored to fit the particular gifts and calling of the individual. By the third year the student should have more specific leadership of the Holy Spirit to their particular area of service. At this point the student will be solid in Bible and sound in doctrine, so the emphasis will be customized for the specific ministry they have received of the Lord. (Col. 4:17)

CLASS WORKLOAD:
The classes will require intensive reading by the student. The amount of reading time will depend on the reading proficiency of the student. Daily devotional reading will require the student to read seven chapters in the NT each day for a month. Each month the student will read a different seven chapters (a reading schedule will be provided). At this pace you will read through the New Testament thirty times in three years. Half time students will read at one half this pace.

Each week there will also be required textbook reading. The textbooks are designed to supplement and help the students digest the scriptures by giving a basic outline, theme, and survey of the individual books of scripture. The books are not intended to give a verse by verse exposition, rather a framework and context for the individual to attach the scriptures to.

I Timothy 4:13 - 16 "Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine. Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery. Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all. Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee."

II Timothy 2:15 "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."

CLASS SCHEDULE:
The classes will be divided into three trimesters with four classes in each trimester. The classes will start in the fall and end in the spring. Each trimester will be twelve weeks long, followed by a final exam at the end of the trimester.

During the twelve weeks, the classes will run consecutively instead of concurrently. Meaning that the first class will be completed prior to starting the second class. This will allow more of a chronological approach to going through the Bible instead of learning four different sections of the Bible at the same time, or four different doctrines.

There will be class-work required each week in the form of lecture. The student will be required to be attentive to the lectures while taking detailed notes. Each lecture will last between thirty and forty-five minutes. Full time students will have four lessons a week and half time students will have two lessons per week. Therefore, full time students will finish an entire class in three weeks while it will take half time students six weeks to finish a class.

GRADING:
The student will be graded on four areas each counting as one-fourth of the overall grade for the course. The four areas to be graded are: quizzes, a final exam, summer reading, and an annual writing assignment.

Quizzes will be given over each lecture to monitor progress in the class. The quizzes will consist of five possible points with an extra credit question. On each quiz there will be one point for completing the daily seven chapter devotional reading, one point for completing the textbook reading, and three questions will be given out of the notes over the lecture. There will be sixty total quiz points for each class.

The final exam given at the end of the trimester will cover all four classes. It will consist of forty questions worth one point apiece, consisting of ten quiz questions from each class, in addition to forty points from four essay questions; one from each class.

The book reports will come from a reading list of books that each student will be required to read. These will consist of valuable books that do not warrant teaching an entire class on. They will be more devotional reading upon important issues or subjects of the Christian life. This will also serve to balance the weightier textbook and Bible reading. Students are required to read one book for each class and turn in a book report to be graded. The student may choose whatever books they are interested in from the list and reading may be accomplished anytime during the year, but it must be completed before classes begin again in the fall.

During each summer of study there will also be a writing assignment to reveal the student’s grasp of the previous year’s subject matter. The first year paper is on the subject: What is the message of the Bible? The second year, the student will be required to produce a detailed personal doctrinal statement. The third year they will be assigned a paper answering the question: What is my ministry? (Half time student's papers will be due the end of the second, fourth, and sixth summers.)

Extra credit may be earned through scripture memorization. Students are highly encouraged to develop their scripture memory skills. The suggested memorization will be different each year. The first year will be Romans 6, the second year I Timothy 3, and the third year II Timothy 2. One extra credit point is given for each verse and may be applied to any class of the students choosing.

TUITION:
The tuition for each class is $25. Therefore, the total tuition for a trimester is $100, for a year $300 (full-time), and $900 to complete the entire institute. The student will be required to purchase their own textbooks for each class.
